this is a set of nesting tutsi baskets, also known as "agaseki" or "ibeseke".
these baskets are iconic traditional crafts from rwanda and burundi, handmade by tutsi aristocratic women from natural plant fibers such as sisal and sweetgrass.they are made using the spiral weaving technique known as "uruhindu" or the double-weaving technique known as "igihisi," renowned for its delicacy and refinement.
the conical lid forms a handle, and the body is decorated with a distinctive zigzag pattern called "umurenzi."
these baskets were traditionally used to present gifts and offerings, but today they are valued as wall decorations or catchalls.
