the olivetti m40 is a standard mechanical typewriter introduced by olivetti in the early 1930s as an evolution of the m20. Designed between 1929 and 1930, it quickly established itself in offices thanks to its solid construction, mechanical reliability, and a keystroke considered particularly comfortable for the time, qualities that favored its spread even during the economically difficult years of the great depression. During its production, the m40 underwent several versions, with progressive updates that led to multiple series, until after world war ii. Alongside the civilian models, simplified variants were also produced during world war ii. In total, over half a million units were produced, making it one of the most representative models in olivetti's history.
