Antique 18th-century wrought iron sign with eagle, Italian ready-to-hang sign made of hand-forged wrought iron. A double frame, shaped and decorated with scrolls, floral, and plant motifs, encloses an eagle at the center, surmounted by an oval crown with acanthus leaves. The eagle is depicted with its body facing forward and wings outstretched. In Greek and Latin mythology, it is the bird sacred to Zeus, god of lightning and clouds.
The eagle is also a symbol of power, victory, and prosperity. It is an ideal architectural element for enhancing the entrance to a villa, an ancient farmhouse, or a castle. Dating back to the late 18th century, this sign originates from Northern Italy but was purchased in Franciacorta. It is in good condition, with traces of gilded decoration visible on both sides of the sign, minor losses, and two leaves.
