Pair of Italian sofas from the "Artona" series designed by Afra & Tobia Scarpa for Maxalto in the 1970s. The wooden frame features decorative bands created by layering and crafting different woods. The seat and backrest are padded with foam and upholstered in the original period velvet fabric.
The most distinctive features of this sofa are the flat armrests and the backrest, which is shaped and supported by flat solid wood pieces, the shape of which is highlighted by dark trim in various woods.
