Cast translucent resin owl with textured body and polished facial planes.
This owl has seen things. Cast in translucent resin with a deeply worked surface, it leans fully into the era’s fascination with texture, symbolism, and material experimentation. The body is rough, irregular, unapologetically tactile.
Attributed to Dorothy C. Thorpe and produced around the late 1960s, the sculpture belongs to her most experimental phase. Resin wasn’t a compromise; it was the point. Lighter than glass, warmer in tone, and far more forgiving in form, it allowed Thorpe to push into bolder, more sculptural territory.
