This is a beautiful etching from an original plate by Pablo Picasso (Spanish, 1881–1973), "Groupe de Trois Femmes," depicting two … Read more This is a beautiful etching from an original plate by Pablo Picasso (Spanish, 1881–1973), "Groupe de Trois Femmes," depicting two robed women flanking a nude female figure—Picasso’s modern reinterpretation of the classical mythological trio Aglaia, Euphrosyne, and Thalia, embodiments of brilliance, joy, and bloom. The composition is reflective of Picasso’s neoclassical period during the 1920s, when he fused classical form with modern line and psychological intimacy.

Picasso created the original plate in 1923, producing just 100 lifetime impressions (noted in Georges Bloch's book entitled Pablo Picasso: Catalog of Printed Graphic Work 1904-1967 as *57, Groupe de Trois Femmes). This example is from a posthumous limited edition of just 1500 hand-pulled at Sorini Studios in New York from the original plate, and hand-colored at Graphics Originals in 1983. Each impression was individually pencil-numbered (this example is numbered 132) and embossed with the artist’s signature.

The print comes professionally double-matted in a gold tone frame with a Picasso nameplate at the base.
