This impressive antique French figural sculpture depicts a standing musketeer or cavalier, rendered with expressive academic detail and strong presence. The figure wears period attire including a wide-brimmed hat, cape, boots, and sword, capturing the romantic historicism popular in late 19th-century French sculpture.
Cast in spelter (zinc alloy) with a rich, naturally aged patina, the sculpture is signed “A. Moreau” on the base, consistent with works attributed to the French sculptor Auguste Moreau (1834–1917). The modeling shows refined facial features, textured garments, and confident stance, making it a striking decorative statement piece.
Due to age and previous outdoor display, the sculpture shows losses, including the missing right forearm, one spur, and the blade of the sword (only the hilt remains). These losses are clearly visible and honestly presented. Despite these, the sculpture remains structurally sound, visually compelling, and highly suitable for decorative display in an interior, covered patio, library, or garden setting.
A dramatic and character-rich antique sculpture, ideal for designers seeking an authentic European decorative accent with historical presence.
