Large original oil painting by Chicago-born American artist Herbert Lee Murrie (b. 1935). Hills of San Gimignano (1997) depicts a luminous Tuscan landscape in rich, expressive brushwork characteristic of Murrie’s Italian period. The panel measures a commanding 60″ × 40″ and is a standout example of his work from the late 1990s.
Murrie trained in classic fine art and draws inspiration from French Impressionism and mid-20th-century color and form. His work has been shown in U.S. and Italian galleries and is held in institutional collections including Grand Valley State University and the Rockford Art Museum.
