They are … Read more A delightful pair of tennis ball-shaped paperweights made of orange sandblasted glass, with added selenium and colloidal cadmium. They are entirely hand-shaped, with hand-grinding to create the classic tennis ball-shaped lines. Both paperweights are signed under the base with a diamond-engraved signature "La Murrina," Murano artistic glassworks. The pair is very heavy and substantial, weighing over 0.800 kg. The sandblasted glass features a beautiful matte satin finish. Sandblasting is an artistic process that allows for decorations, engravings, glazes, or simply opaque glass surfaces, eliminating transparency without compromising brightness. It is achieved by subjecting the glass to the abrasive action of sand, "blasted" through the compressed air of a glass sandblaster. This treatment makes the glass opalescent, which was once completely transparent.
