A charming late-17th-century miniature map of Portugal by Pierre Du Val, published in Paris around 1680. Du Val, nephew of Nicolas Sanson, was one of the leading French mapmakers of his period, admired for his elegant small-format atlases. This finely engraved sheet shows the kingdom of Portugal with towns, rivers, regional divisions and coastal detail, all framed by a decorative title cartouche. The later hand-colouring enhances the clarity of the engraving while preserving the character of the original work. Maps from Du Val’s miniature series are prized for their collectability, historical value and decorative appeal, offering a concise yet vivid snapshot of Iberian geography in the late 17th century.
Condition: Very good condition with later hand-colouring; clean sheet with only natural ageing, wide margins, no tears or repairs.
