The flat black surface is framed by a wide border in gold-coloured lacquer, with alternating traditional patterns – stylised waves and graphic lines – interspersed with floral medallions in the corners. The bevelled edges give the tray a refined, slim appearance.

The accompanying leaflets describe this piece simply as a “lacquered tray” designed by Hiroko Koshino, intended both as a serving tray and as a decorative object. Another card explains the characteristics and care of lacquerware.

The tray is in very good, almost unused condition, with only light signs of use and storage on the black surface. It comes in the original cardboard box with Hiroko Koshino logo and documentation.

Today you can use this tray both functionally and decoratively: as a serving tray for tea, sake or sushi, as a base for an ikebana vase, candles or a sculpture, or as a graphic eye-catcher on a sideboard or coffee table. See less
