Paolo Minoli (Cantù, 1942–2004) is a central figure in Italian abstraction in the second half of the twentieth century. After graduating as a Master of Art from the Istituto d'Arte di Cantù in 1961, he taught there from 1964 to 1978, developing a research focus on color, rhythm, and geometric construction in the 1970s. His work falls within the realm of geometric abstraction and analytical painting, with a particular focus on modular processes and color sequences.
The work consists of two panels, each 65 × 125 cm, conceived as a single compositional unit. Each panel features two square fields structured through a regular grid of color modules, organized according to color progressions that vary in intensity and distribution. The checkerboard structure defines a visual order based on serial relationships and the controlled repetition of modules, generating a precise and harmonious chromatic rhythm.
The relationship between the different configurations of the two panels creates a visual continuity that reflects Minoli's interest in combinatorial systems and variations within form. The work functions as a single modular articulation, where chromatic differences converge within a rigorous structural balance.
The work is in excellent condition. The back bears the artist's signature, date, title, and original notes regarding the structure of the entire composition. This piece has an attribution mark,
