The bright full moon shines radiantly in the sky, glimpsing out between the whispy nighttime clouds. Below, a meadow of grasses and flowers wafts gently in the breeze.

The series Gaia takes its names from the hypothesis by James Lovelock and Lynn Margulis, which describes Earth as a single superorganism in which living beings and the rest of the planet establish a self-regulating equilibrium that ensures the survival of the whole.

In this series of diptychs, Llorens creates a duality of meaning by juxtaposing two photographs of natural elements found in Llorens' own natural habitat. These two individual images combine to make a third, holistic, harmonious whole, which differs from the simple sum of its parts, as described by Ralph Gibson in 'Overtones and Proportions'.
