Antique Oval Romantic Seascape with Crashing Waves
Pastel on Paper, Signed
Dimensions: 21.9 x 26 in. (framed)
This 19th-century pastel drawing depicts a dramatic coastal scene, rendered in a romantic style characteristic of traditional marine art. Executed in soft pastels on paper, the composition captures a stormy seascape with waves crashing against a rugged shoreline beneath a turbulent sky.
The work is housed in an ornate, oval-shaped giltwood frame and preserved behind original antique leaded glass. The pastel remains in stable condition, with minor spotting visible in the upper left quadrant. The frame exhibits surface wear, including scuffs and light scratches, consistent with age and handling.
The piece is signed in the lower left quadrant by the artist.
