Emilio Rene Terry y Sánchez (1890–1969), known as Emilio Terry was a French architect, artist, interior decorator and landscape designer of Cuban-Irish ancestry. Creating furniture, tapestries and objets d'art, he was influenced by the château de Chenonceau, acquired by his family, and he created a style that was at once classical and baroque, which he called the "Louis XVII style".
So far, no book has ever been devoted to the architect and decorator Emilio Terry. The friend of Jean-Michel Franck, Christian Bérard, Boris Kochno, Dali, des Noailles, and many others, is nevertheless an emblematic figure of the abundant and brilliant era of the thirties and the post-war period. He bequeathed an abundant documentation on his work to the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris so that it could be made available to the public. It is this set of drawings, notebooks, plans and models that the author consulted for more than three years to write this book and provide a maximum of precision on the main developments and sites that Emilio Terry took care of throughout his life.
For the first time, in a field where much has been said and written, the creator's original documentation supports a text that provides a better understanding of his work. The author presents in particular the construction sites of: Amphion, Lutry, Clavary, the Villa Loste, the Hotel de Chanaleilles, Groussay, etc. A very evocative biography and abundant appendices make this book a reference work that will seduce both lovers of the history of taste and lovers of architecture and decoration.
