Butterfly illustration by Thomas Say, antique insect artwork from American Entomology (ca. 1824–1828), available as a 24" × 36" unframed fine art giclée print.
Refined entomological illustration reproduced from American Entomology, or Descriptions of the Insects of North America by Thomas Say, widely regarded as the father of American entomology. Say’s work represents one of the earliest comprehensive efforts to scientifically document insect life in North America.
This plate presents two butterfly specimens with careful attention to wing structure, coloration, and symmetry. The balanced composition and restrained background emphasize scientific clarity while retaining a delicate, decorative quality that bridges natural history and early American illustration.
Originally executed as a hand-colored watercolor natural history illustration.
The artwork has been digitally remastered from a historical source, preserving fine linework, subtle color variation, and the period character of the original plate. Minor tonal variation, faint marks, or paper texture from the antique source may remain and are considered part of the artwork’s authentic historical quality.
Printed using archival pigment inks on museum-quality matte fine art paper for long-term color stability and reduced glare.
Unframed.
