This chinoiserie painting includes a majestic white swan, white peonies, cherry blossoms and delicate weeping willow branches. In the distance is a silhouette of a Chinoiserie style fishing boat.

One of the largest of flying birds, swans have an incredible wingspan of up to 10 feet wide! Swans mate for life and can be aggressive if they feel threatened. Swans are often a symbol of love and fidelity. They frequently appear in folklore, myths and stories.

The soft plumage of this swan is painted in varying shades of white with tiny lines. The pair of darker birds are also painted in a Modern Chinoiserie style. The wispy blue willow leaves gently sway and barely touch the water. Peonies bloom on the edge of the shore. Cherry blossoms are painted with great detail and a touch of color.

Chinoiserie painting is a considered a European interpretation of East Asian decorative arts. However, Allison puts her lighter touch on her pieces. Comparatively, she paints in a looser style with a more modern palette. Additionally, she is inspired by the scientific illustrations of James Audubon.
