The painted and gilt surfaces have aged into the kind of soft, broken finish no one can manufacture — warm, varied, and quietly luminous against a dark wood table. Attribution and provenance: Per original dealer documentation from Tom Hayes & Associates at the Atlanta Decorative Arts Center (ADAC), the chairs are of Italian origin and date to the late 19th century. The set comprises six original chairs and four closely matched companion chairs, assembled as a cohesive dining set. Differences between the two groups are subtle and appear primarily in portions of the carved knee decoration.

These are honest antiques and are described as such. The painted and gilt finishes show substantial age-related wear, consistent with age, including rubbing, losses, scattered chips, surface variation, and exposed substrate — characteristics that give the set its timeworn character and decorative appeal. The six original chairs exhibit age-related separation, movement, prior repairs, and restoration at portions of the upper back and crest rail joinery, all visible in the photographs. The four companion chairs are generally tighter. All ten chairs remain functional for seating.
