Museum-Grade Japanese Nambu Ironware — Handcrafted and Historically Significant
This large Nambu-shaped iron kettle is handcrafted from Nambu Ironware, a Japanese metal craft with over 400 years of history originating in Iwate Prefecture. Nambu Ironware was officially designated a Traditional Craft of Japan in 1975, and 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of that designation. The artisan workshop that produced this kettle is also celebrating its 400th year of operation in 2025, making this piece historically and culturally significant.
The Nambu-shaped kettle features the “Komaji” pattern, inspired by the lively and powerful horses of the former Nambu domain, embossed in the bell-shaped surface. Designed with traditional zatsuki-fukuro-sen and ubakuchi specifications, this kettle demonstrates the skill and pride of generations of Nambu craftsmen.
Each piece is fully forged, sculpted, and finished by nationally certified Traditional Craft Artisans in Japan. Every hammer mark tells a story of the maker’s hand — no mass casting.
