This dramatic four-panel folding screen is inspired by the iconic “Cloud Dragon” by Kaihoku Yūshō (1533–1615), a master of Japanese ink painting.
Each screen is meticulously handcrafted in Ishikawa, Japan, by skilled artisans trained in Kanazawa leaf techniques, a traditional craft designated by the Japanese government in 1977. While this work uses silver leaf, the expertise and precision of Kanazawa artisans ensure a luminous and sophisticated surface, capturing the subtle ink washes and delicate line work that define Yūshō’s style.
Historically, the original work was installed in the walls of Kennin-ji Temple in Kyoto, where two dragons faced each other across the space. This screen depicts the “A” dragon, faithfully reproducing the simplified gradations, soft ink bleeds, and dynamic flow that are hallmarks of Yūshō’s brushwork.
Each piece is made to order, with estimated production and delivery time of approximately 90 days from order confirmation.
