Gaming board: This meticulously hand-fitted reproduction of an 18th century original features parquetry, the technique of using geometric shapes of contrasting woods to make various designs. Inveterate gamblers and gamesters, colonial Virginians enjoyed their games in numerous popular taverns. Made by Virginia Metalcrafters for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation in the late 1970s. Designed and crafted by the Charles Overly studio.

Board measures 17 1/4 in. square.
Board weight: Approximately 6-1/2 pounds.
Board was used by my parents and reflects age related wear. Please see photos.

Aesop’s Fables wooden checkers: Set of Aesop’s Fables wooden checkers in original box. Checkers are black and tan with various Aesop’s Fables represented. S134–18073. Checkers were purchased and used with the above mentioned gaming board.

“I Hardy” Deck of Playing Cards: Based on a card deck printed circa 1765, this deck of cards is printed on heavy stock paper with period appropriate colors.

**Board, checkers and playing cards were purchased in 1978 when I worked for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. When not in use, board was kept covered/wrapped in cloth included in packing.
