This pair of vintage ladderback side chairs dates to the early–mid 20th century (circa 1920s–1940s) and showcases classic American farmhouse craftsmanship. Each chair features a four-slat “moustached” ladderback, turned posts with finial tops, and hand-turned stretchers, reflecting traditional vernacular furniture design.
The seats are hand-woven rush, offering both durability and comfort, and remain intact with visible age-appropriate wear. The chairs retain a timeworn white painted finish, naturally distressed through decades of use, with areas of exposed wood that add warmth, depth, and authentic patina. This wear is consistent with age and contributes to their collected, rustic character.
Originally produced as side chairs to accompany matching ladderback armchairs at a dining table, these pieces work beautifully as dining seating, accent chairs, or styled in a farmhouse, cottage, or primitive interior.

Paint loss, surface wear, and patina present throughout. Rush seats show age but remain functional. Structurally sound. I think that the chair was painted long ago by an individual and then naturally weathered. A clear coat has been applied to the chair to protect the beautiful chipped white paint. One piece of rush is broken under the chair but does not compromise the chair. Beautifully handmade. less
