This exceptional circa 1910 desk inkwell paperweight is a striking fusion of natural form and refined Edwardian craftsmanship. Fashioned from genuine antler, the body retains its organic texture and warmth, expertly hollowed at the center to accommodate an inkwell, an ingenious and visually captivating use of material that speaks to early 20th-century tastes for rustic luxury.
The piece is elevated by finely marked sterling silver overlays adorning both the sides and the lid, each finished with a beautifully executed beaded border that adds depth, rhythm, and unmistakable elegance. The domed lid, with its luminous silver surface, contrasts exquisitely against the earthy tones of the antler, creating a harmonious balance between nature and ornament. Four small sterling silver feet lift the piece subtly from the surface, giving it presence and a sense of architectural refinement while protecting the desk beneath.
Equally suited as a functional desk accessory or a sculptural paperweight, this inkwell is a rare and distinctive object—perfect for display in a library, study, or executive desk setting. Its compact yet substantial proportions, measuring approximately 4 inches wide, 2 inches deep, and 2.5 inches high, along with a pleasing weight of 7 ounces, give it a satisfying, tactile quality. Good antique condition, there is a slight unevenness due to the imperfect natural slope of the antler. The interior would have held a glass liner, it is no longer present. Signs of wear and handling. Please review the photos for further condition assessment.
A truly unique antique that embodies the elegance, craftsmanship, and character of its era, this antler and sterling silver inkwell is an outstanding conversation piece and a refined addition to any collection of desk accessories, tobacciana, or decorative antiques.
