Fisher exhibited his first watercolor at the Royal Academy in 1887 having received formal art training both at the Lambeth School of Art and the South Kensington School of Art (now the Royal Academy of Art). He was tapped to create art and photography depicting the British Empire for education purposes in 1907.

The setters appear weary on a bearskin rug before a fire. The interior scene is notable in itself capturing a spare room with an old chair draped with a cloth and perhaps a shotgun. There is a painting above the mantle with a vase and pipe. Watercolor is a challenging medium for animal portraiture and Fisher successfully brings life and personality to both dogs.

The painting is signed H Fisher in the bottom left. The visible painting is 17" x 11 1/2". The frame is modern. See less
