a genuine antique county map of essex by john speed, from the henry overton edition published in 1713. This is an original copper-engraved map from speed's celebrated "theatre of the empire of great britaine", printed from the original plates approximately 74 years after speed's death.

this map comes with a dealer provenance label on the reverse from brian j. Page, antique maps & prints, "hill house", 24 high street, billericay - a respected specialist dealer. The label confirms this as a genuine john speed map from the 1713 henry overton edition.

condition

good antique condition commensurate with age (over 300 years old). The hand colouring is bright and attractive. Some typical age-related toning to the paper. Professionally mounted and framed in a gilt and ebonised moulding with cream mount. The frame is in good condition with minor wear consistent with age. This piece has an attribution mark,
