Bruno Krauskopf was born in 1892 in Marienburg, West Prussia. At the age of 14, he moved to Berlin to begin an apprenticeship as a chromolithographer. with the help of a scholarship, he studied at the Royal Museum of Decorative Arts under Professor Doeppler from 1910. Between 1913 and 1921, he created his graphic oeuvre, which primarily consists of lithographs and is supplemented by woodcuts and linocuts. from 1916, Krauskopf was a member of the "Free Berlin Secession," and Lovis Corinth persuaded him to join the "Berlin Secession," where he served on the board and jury until 1933, participating in all exhibitions. Krauskopf attended the founding meeting of the "November Group" and, along with Max Pechstein, Rudolf Belling, and Erich Mendelsohn, became a member of its working committee in 1918. As early as the beginning of the 1920s, Krauskopf's painting style underwent a transformation: his palette became fresher and more vibrant, and his impasto technique signaled an increasing shift towards Impressionism. Solo exhibitions followed at the Berlin galleries of Flechtheim, Gurlitt, and Victor Hartberg. Numerous awards confirmed Krauskopf's growing success. Study trips to Poland and France between 1927 and 1932 provided the artist with new inspiration, but his successful career came to an abrupt end with the rise of the National Socialists to power. When he refused to conform to the official line as desired, his art was branded "degenerate." Under immense pressure, Krauskopf emigrated to Norway in 1933 and settled in Stavanger. There, he was surrounded by a landscape whose light, color, and topography perfectly suited his temperament. However, he could not maintain this tranquil, art-focused life for long, as the occupation of Norway forced him to leave the country as well. Krauskopf went to America, where, after a difficult start, he gradually gained recognition. Two New York galleries brought him to prominence, and as early as 1952, he was celebrated at the Carnegie International Exhibition in Pittsburgh as a representative of contemporary American art. In 1957, Krauskopf moved to Berlin and died there three years later, on December 23, 1960, after a serious illness. Throughout his life, Bruno Krauskopf considered himself a painter "who can only paint, and nothing else." This devotion and passion is palpable in his art. This piece has an attribution mark,
