An Exceptional And Rare Design English Georgian Chippendale Period Mahogany Tallboy, Or Chest On Chest, Retaining Wonderful Rich Colour And Patina Throughout, Alongside Bold Original Brass Pierced Plate Handles, The Two Short And Six Long Drawers Surrounded By Superbly Carved Decoration To Mouldings, Blind Fretwork Decoration And Reeded Quarter Turned Columns To Each Corner, Raised On Very Unusual Original Shaped Ogee Bracket Feet.
An absolutely wonderful example of its type this particular tallboy is in quite excellent condition and retains a wonderful untouched colour and patina to the mahogany surfaces. It is also of course slightly unusual and quirky in terms of the bottom section being taller than the top section and this is something which certainly adds to the overall appeal of the piece.
All of the slovely brass plate handles appear to be original and all of the drawers still operate and function perfectly which is most certainly down to the quality of the original construction and the high grade secondary timbers used within the carcass and drawer linings of this piece.
Tallboys, or Chest On Chests as they are often known are such useful, functional pieces of furniture. This item is as fit for purpose as the day it was made, with the added bonus of it being very untouched and charming, which is really quite something when you consider that it was originally constructed over 250 years ago.
The ogee feet are not only original, but of a most unusual design pattern which we have not seen before, another example of how special this piece is.
We are fairly confident that this lovely georgian tallboy would have been made in one of the very best 18th century workshops of the time due to all its lovely features, such as Vile & Cobb, Phillip Bell, or possibly even Thomas Chippendale himself, but its very difficult to pin down an exact attribution for this particular piece other than London around 1760 or so.
