Exceptionally rare art deco cup and saucer by eschenbach bavaria, germany, circa 1920s.
the eschenbach porcelain factory was founded in 1913 in windischeschenbach, bavaria, and produced high-quality porcelain for the discerning market. This cup dates from the early eschenbach era (before 1928), identifiable by the crown mark on the underside.
"old original egypt" pattern:
this extremely rare pattern belongs to the "egypt" series, inspired by the egyptomania of the 1920s—triggered by the sensational discovery of tutankhamun's tomb in 1922. The geometric design features a stylized sunburst pattern with zigzag rays in vibrant colors: golden yellow, rich orange, and royal blue, framed by black outlines.
art deco splendor:
the powerful geometric design is typical of the art deco movement of the 1920s – characterized by clean lines, bold colors, and symmetrical patterns. The sunbeams are arranged in concentric circles, creating a dynamic, almost hypnotic pattern.
exceptional design element:
a truly unique feature of this cup is the three gilded ball feet on the bottom! these raised feet protect the decorative saucer and are an extremely rare design element on porcelain cups. This demonstrates the exceptional attention to detail and the quality of this production.
luxurious gilding:
both the cup and saucer are adorned with elaborate gold decoration – on the inside rim of the cup, on the curved handle, and on the rim of the saucer. The gold is in very good condition, which is rare for vintage porcelain.
handcrafted quality:
this cup showcases the finest german porcelain quality with a glossy, even glaze. The hand-painted details of the zigzag pattern are executed with precision. The elegant, curved handle with gold accents is ergonomically designed.
historical context:
this cup represents a fascinating era: the "golden twenties" in germany, characterized by artistic innovation, jazz culture, and the rise of art deco. Egyptomania permeated all areas of design—from architecture and fashion to porcelain.
collectible rarity:
the "old original egypt" pattern by eschenbach is extremely rare on the market. The combination of early eschenbach production (pre-1928), art deco design, egyptian motif, and the unique gold feet makes this set an exceptional collector's item.
