A beautifully restored vintage wooden stenographer chair featuring sculpted solid oak construction, adjustable seating, and a rolling base. Originally designed for early office and drafting use, this chair combines industrial utility with timeless craftsmanship.
The contoured seat and curved backrest display rich wood grain and a warm, aged patina. The seat height adjusts via the swivel mechanism beneath the seat, allowing the chair to raise and lower smoothly, while the backrest is also adjustable for added comfort. Two additional original adjustment knobs remain present as part of the chair’s original hardware but are not currently operational.
The chair is supported by a distinctive four-legged oak base on casters. The original baseplate—where the seat column connects to the base—is engraved with H. W. Sheldrick’s chair base patent (U.S. Patent No. 2,168,810), filed January 12, 1938, providing documented provenance and confirming the chair’s late-1930s design origin.
Recently refreshed and cleaned, the chair presents beautifully while retaining light, age-appropriate character consistent with its vintage origins. A rare and sculptural piece well suited for use as a desk chair, studio chair, or statement accent in industrial, vintage, modern farmhouse, or creative interiors.
