This large mixed-media work on paper, canvas and wood belongs to the artist’s ongoing Fragments series, where ruptured framing and material expansion become central to the act of representation. Measuring 170 × 135 × 5 cm, the piece stages two outstretched arms approaching a mass of vividly painted drapery—yet never quite touching. The scene unfolds across an unstable surface of crumpled paper adhered to canvas and wood, a textured terrain that folds, breaks and interrupts the painted image. In Fragments, the focus lies not on the completeness of the figure but on what escapes the viewer’s grasp: gestures that fragment, meanings that dissolve, and emotional realities that remain partially withheld. For this work, the artist invokes the myth of Selene and Endymion through an unexpected, even dissonant setting: a “motel de mala muerte.” This deliberate juxtaposition—an ancient story of nocturnal visitation and suspended desire placed within a degraded, transient space—echoes the core tension of the series. Like Selene approaching the eternally sleeping Endymion, the reaching hands evoke longing, distance and the impossibility of full presence. The worn, folded surface echoes the instability of the world the artist seeks to describe—a reality that resists clarity and cannot be neatly contained within a frame. The saturated drapery, painted in vivid pinks and violets, contrasts sharply with the sculptural folds of the underlying paper, creating a dialogue between classical pictorial vocabulary and contemporary material rupture. The hybrid construction—part painting, part relief, part sculptural object—reinforces the artist’s ongoing exploration of what can be shown and what must remain withheld. This piece will appeal to collectors drawn to concept-driven figuration, textured mixed media and psychologically charged contemporary work.
