Artist Pascal Cucaro was born in Ohio in 1915, and he spent his childhood summers working in the circus. His time spent among the performers at the circus led to a lifelong interest in clowns and everyday circus life. Oil painter Pascal Cucaro produced his larger artworks in his studio, but he created sketches and watercolors during his travels in the Army during WWII. He also studied art on his own in Europe before returning to the States. Artist Pascal Cucaro was multitalented and experimented with different mediums, including lithography and enamel on copper. Pascal Cucaro's portraits for sale include clowns that he painted on guitars and violins. Pascal Cucaro was honored with a nomination for the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1965 and received an honorable mention by the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce for “enhancing the prestige of San Francisco and the Bay Area as a major world culture center through his creative energy and work”.
Cucaro was an icon of the Beat years in San Francisco's North Beach, being the winner of numerous medals and awards, and exhibited with success worldwide, including at a one-man show at the Butler Institute of Art in 1958 and was collected by many famous Hollywood personalities of the 1950s & 1960s.
Starting from around 1963, Pascal Cucaro began to exhibit exclusively with Cory Gallery, which was created by Ed Cory, an art dealer who established two galleries in San Francisco (at Geary and Jefferson Streets) and later, in Honolulu, Hawaii, Los Angeles and Paris, France.
