The earthy tones and deep terracotta color of this rare pair of equipale barrel chairs lend raw, natural beauty to any living space. Organic in shape, the chairs are handcrafted from tanned pigskin and estaca wood strips in the traditional way. They retain their original distressed patina. The equipale chair tradition dates back to pre-hispanic times. The word ‘equipal’ derives from the aztec word for seat or thrown. In the days of the Mexican conquest, Cortez accorded “equipales” as seats to honour ranking dignitaries.
