This acrylic painting on 300 g/m² paper captures one of Nico Pearleyes’ most intimate and psychological compositions. Synchronicity explores the mysterious interplay between coincidence and meaning—the invisible threads that connect events, thoughts, and emotions beyond rational causality. The title alludes to the concept developed by Carl Jung, suggesting that certain encounters or moments resonate with a sense of purpose that transcends logic. The scene depicts a quiet domestic interior: a man sits at his desk, absorbed in thought, while a woman’s face appears framed by a circular mirror behind him. The two figures inhabit different spaces, yet a strange alignment connects them—the light, colors, and geometric planes seem to respond to one another as if governed by an unseen rhythm. The composition balances structure and tension: the green walls, the angled shadows, and the glowing warmth of the lamp construct a visual harmony that feels at once accidental and destined. Pearleyes uses this ordinary setting to suggest that synchronicity is not confined to mysticism, but operates in everyday life, where perception itself creates patterns of connection. His language—rooted in Renaissance geometry, Korean pictorial balance, skateboard subculture, Post-Impressionist color, and Pop Surrealist imagination—transforms this interior into a psychological landscape. The mirror functions as a portal between realities, reflecting not just the figure but the shared field of consciousness that binds them. Through Synchronicity, Pearleyes continues his exploration of how imagination and perception co-create the world. The painting offers no explicit narrative, but instead reveals how meaning emerges in silence—through form, light, and the uncanny sense that everything is already intertwined.
