This large architectural wood sculpture is a landmark work within José Perozo’s ongoing exploration of anthropotecture, a term he uses to describe the convergence between human presence and architectural form. Antropotectura presents a monumental head emerging from a dense assemblage of carved wooden blocks, as if the portrait were coexisting with—or being shaped by—the constructive logic that surrounds it. The sculpture operates simultaneously as an anatomical study, an architectural elevation and a material excavation, invoking the idea of the human body as a dwelling carved from its own structural environment. Carved from solid fir wood using chainsaws, manual saws, grinding discs, gouges, rasps and chisels, the sculpture reflects both the physicality of large-scale woodworking and the precision required to articulate the facial features. The anatomical zone retains a deliberately roughened texture, while the architectural block system is finished with smoother planes that preserve traces of toolwork and natural imperfections. The surface is polychromed with nitro dyes and acrylic paint, then sealed with diluted matte nitro varnish to maintain the porous, natural appearance of the wood. Originally modeled in clay at a 1:3 scale and transferred through a plaster mold in a lost-mold process, the final sculpture combines handcrafted detail with a distinctly constructive, stratified presence. with its commanding scale and hybrid language, Antropotectura aligns strongly with 1stDibs categories such as Large Sculptures, Contemporary Figurative Works and Architectural Objects. Keywords including architectural wood sculpture, carved head sculpture and constructive block sculpture enhance its visibility among collectors seeking significant, concept-driven contemporary pieces.
