A sculptural and unmistakably glamorous set of six dining chairs attributed to Pierre Cardin, produced in Italy in the late 1970s—most likely by Rimaldi, the manufacturer known for creating several furniture pieces for the couturier during that period, now highly sought after on the international market.
These chairs embody the refined, architectural boldness typical of Cardin’s furniture creations. The silhouette is defined by a dramatic, flared backrest composed of two sculpted wooden uprights connected by three horizontal rungs—an elegant graphic detail that reads like a stylized ladder, adding rhythm and verticality to the design. The back legs, gently curved, flow seamlessly into the uprights, while the front legs remain straight and substantial, creating a striking interplay between movement and stability. Original Late-1970s Finish The warm, honey-toned wood retains its original spray lacquer, a glossy and richly reflective finish rarely preserved this well. It beautifully highlights the wood grain and enhances the sculptural geometry of the backrest.
The seats are newly upholstered in full-grain dark brown (testa di moro) leather, sourced from the same prestigious tannery that supplies Bottega Veneta. The leather is luxurious to the touch—dense, velvety, and substantial. What might appear as minor “imperfections” are in fact natural markings of the hide—signs of authenticity that confirm the premium quality of the material and add uniqueness and value. No corrective coating, no artificial texturing—just pure, full-grain leather as used in the finest Italian leather goods.
Excellent vintage condition. The wood surfaces retain their original glossy lacquer; only minimal signs of age consistent with careful use. The leather upholstery is new, flawless, and expertly executed. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
