Handwoven in wool, by nomads of the Shahson clan, circa 1950-1960, this 5x8 vintage Kilim enjoying colorful stripes, is a particularly bright and sought-after work of an exciting new curation from Rug & Kilim’s collection of classic kilims and flatweaves.
On the Design:
This distinguished vintage Persian kilim emerges from Rug & Kilim's curated collection as an exemplary study in minimalist sophistication. This particular type of flatweave enjoying polychromatic stripes has a notable thickness to it, an almost braided weave that has its own gorgeous sense of striae and intricacy.
The Yel Shahsun is one of the Turkic-speaking tribes of Azerbaijan that reside in northwestern Iran, especially in the Moghan Plain and Ardabil, as well as in other areas such as Kharqan and Khamseh. The name "Shahsun" has Turkish roots and means "friend of the king."
This name was given to the tribe because of their support and loyalty to the Safavid kings. Today, in addition to Iran, groups of Shahsuns also live in neighboring countries such as Azerbaijan, Iraq, Turkey, and Syria.
Condition:
This vintage kilim further enjoys good condition for its age and lineage.
