Sonia Delaunay abstract etching and aquatint — “Totem,” 1970, a vibrant geometric composition on Arches wove paper, signed, numbered (edition of 200), and published by the Cercle Graphique Européen with blindstamp.
This striking 1970 etching and aquatint (83 × 64 cm framed) exemplifies Sonia Delaunay’s late-career mastery of colour, rhythm, and geometric abstraction. Printed on Arches wove paper, the composition is built from bold interlocking forms in saturated blue, green, and orange, counterbalanced by a textured black hatch motif. These luminous, sculptural colour fields echo Delaunay’s lifelong research into simultanéisme — the dynamic interaction of colours that defined her pioneering role within early abstraction. The impression is richly inked with a deeply embossed plate mark.
The work is signed “Sonia Delaunay” in pencil lower right and numbered from the limited edition of 200 lower left, with the Cercle Graphique Européen blindstamp confirming its authorised publication. Condition is very good: the colours remain vivid and the sheet is structurally sound, with a small band of browning along the paper edge, entirely unrestored and original, consistent with age.
