Large wood folk art carving depicting an epic Hindu tale. I picked this up during my travels in Sri Lanka in the 1980s for an exhibition in Hong Kong.
It shows Ananda, the god of love.
It is 3 1/2 feet high and about 3 feet wide.
It disassembles into six separate carvings.
It was carved in the 1970s or 80s as part of a local temple.
Purchased directly from Sri Lanka in the 1980s.
There are two cracks - both in the arms of the centerpiece. They have been repaired, and there are several paint chips and some wear.
