An exquisite and refined pair of candlesticks made of gilt bronze in late 19th-century France. Each features a delicate putti, or cherub, in patinated bronze with a dark finish, holding an ormolu basket filled with fruit, which also serves as the candle holder. Two arms, or lights, extend from the basket. This small winged child, of excellent craftsmanship and quality, stands on a circular white marble base, also adorned with gilt bronze, and rests on four small feet of the same material. Ormolu is an alloy of bronze and mercury-gilded gold. After casting, it is chiseled to achieve the fine details that lend realism to the piece. The foundry mark "Unis Francia" appears at the bottom, always a sign of quality. The condition is good, with some minor signs that do not detract from the overall appearance. These are a pair of refined and exquisite French candlesticks that will aesthetically enhance any space or piece of furniture.
