The structure is made of brass, while the large bell-shaped lampshade is made of satin-finished opaline glass.
Ignazio Gardella (Milan, 1905 – Oleggio, 1999) was one of the leading figures in 20th-century Italian architecture.
He graduated first in Civil Engineering and then in Architecture from the Milan Polytechnic. Even before the war, he had carried out a series of works for the upper middle classes of Piedmont and Lombardy, clients whom he was able to interpret in many important projects during the Reconstruction period, when he was at the forefront of proposing a new idea of architecture.
In 1947, he founded Azucena with Luigi Caccia Dominioni and Corrado Corradi Dell'Acqua. Until the 1990s, Gardella continued to produce and design furniture and accessories, including for other companies, as well as pursuing his extraordinary career as an internationally renowned architect in public and private works.
