A richly layered mixed-media drawing by Ruth Esserman (1936–2022), a Chicago-based artist and educator whose work was exhibited nationally and internationally for more than five decades. Esserman was widely known for her intricate, map-like abstractions built from dense cross-hatched linework and translucent washes of color—an approach strongly reflected in this piece.
The composition features two pyramid-like forms surrounded by rhythmic, floating geometric elements, suggesting shifting terrain or imagined landscapes. The warm, neutral palette makes it exceptionally easy to integrate into contemporary interiors.
Esserman exhibited with the Arts Club of Chicago (member since 1964) and in major juried shows at the Denver Art Museum, Minneapolis Art Museum, Rockford Art Museum Biennial, and the Pilzn International Drawing Biennale, where she received Best in Show. Works by the artist are included in numerous private and public collections.
The artwork (12” x 18”)is unframed, mounted on mat board (16” × 20”) exactly as it was kept in the artist’s studio. It has been stored flat and is in very good, clean condition with minor signs of age consistent with studio storage. Signed lower right.
