An impressive late 20th century work in oil on canvass, by Jan De Ruth (Czech Republic: 1922 - 1991). Entitled "Study of a Nude Girl". She seems pensive... and comfortable.
Boldly framed, presents larger than its dimensions would suggest.
A holocaust survivor, Jan de Rush spent WWII in four different concentration camps throughout Europe. He fed his artistic bent by drawing on his clothing and on found scraps. His first art "sale" was a drawing of mother and child, medium being a scrap of paper he found in one of the factories in which he worked for his Nazi captors, and burnt coffee. He traded with a guard for a piece of bread.
Following a successful escape, and ultimately the end of WWII, Jan found his way to London, and began his formal art education at Ruskin Art School. In 1948, he immigrated to America, and eventually became a citizen.
His most notable achievement, aside from surviving the holocaust, might be his selection by Time Magazine to do a portrait of Ethel Kennedy for the April 1969 cover.
