Founded in 1868, The New York Athletic Club's goal was to sponsor athletic competitions in the New York area. The club organized the first US championships in boxing, swimming, wrestling, and track and field. It is the home of the William V. Campbell Trophy, which is award to the top college football scholar-athlete. The club is now a private, invitation-only institution with members winning over 321 Olympic medals.
In 1921, a group of mostly New York Athletic Club members founded the Winged Foot Golf Club. The center of this plate has the gold emblem of golf ball, crossed clubs, and a winged-foot.
