The sofa was professionally … Read more Purchased at Dilmos just off Via Brera on Piazza S. Marco in Milan, Italy in 1985.
The sofa was professionally reupholstered a few years ago, so the inner lining which said "Flexform" was removed. The reupholstering was done by the same company that reupholsters pieces for a high end national furniture and fabric store.
The material is a texturally soft taupe chenille with a wavy pattern. The cushions, the seat, back, and armrests, aren't structured so the sofa is more of a "slouchy" style. The cushion inserts are 90% down so it is the perfect place to sink in for a nap, read a book or watch the tv. The "armrests" are removable.
Even though the fabric is totally free of stains and wear, I personally would reupholstered all the cushions/pillows with a coordinating fabric, thereby creating a two-fabric piece. I say this because, although this particular chenille is lovely, it has a nap, and therefore it is sometimes difficult to match the cushion naps when arranging them. I personally would also, at that time, add a little more structure to the cushions, although you might then lose some of the cushy, "sink-in" feeling. Again, that is just my personal opinion.
