Subject and Style: The piece reflects the eclectic and historicist taste of the second half of the 19th century, with strong references to Neo-Renaissance and Louis XIV styles. The box has a rounded rectangular shape, richly decorated in the round with phytomorphic motifs (acanthus leaves, flowers, and scrolls) in relief on a dotted background. The front is embellished with a central shield (cartouche) with a lock. The lid is topped with an elegant vertical ornamental handle, while the entire structure rests on four solid lion's paw feet, a typical detail of fine cabinetmaking and metalwork of the period.

Material and Finish: Crafted entirely of solid brass with a splendid antique gold patina that enhances the three-dimensionality of the decorations. The interior is rough and exposed, consistent with its period.
