Cavalier king charles spaniel
etching with fine watercolor coloring.
engraver: john outrim (active 19th century). A british engraver of the first half of the 19th century, he devoted much of his work to translating famous paintings into engraving, particularly those of edwin landseer. Thanks to his technical skill and delicate strokes, he helped popularize the most beloved images of the era.
subject of sir edwin henry landseer (1802–1873), an english painter and sculptor, he was the great interpreter of animals in victorian painting. Beloved by queen victoria, who appointed him as her court artist, he became renowned for his dogs, deer, and horses, rendered with extraordinary sensitivity. A member of the royal academy from a young age, he also left an indelible mark on sculpture, with the lions in trafalgar square in london.
