A striking, large-scale bronze sculpture of African origin (West Africa), stylistically attributable to the Ashanti culture of Ghana or Benin. Made using the traditional lost-wax casting technique, it represents a prestigious or ceremonial object with strong symbolic value.
Subject and Style: The work features a complex, vertical composition: two large, stylized birds (probably hornbills or sacred birds) join their beaks to support a finely decorated vase with a woven pattern. At the base, between the birds' legs, are modeled two seated male figures, wearing conical headdresses, depicted in an attitude of offering or repose. The style is characterized by elongated, expressive forms, typical of early-century tribal statuary.
Material and Finish: The sculpture is crafted from solid bronze. The surface features a beautiful, dark, natural patina, consistent with the aging of the metal over time.
