This exceptional globe sewing table from around 1900 combines the elegance of the late Biedermeier period with the sophisticated functionality of an exclusive piece of ladies' furniture. The spherical lid, reminiscent of a terrestrial globe, is elaborately veneered and decorated with fine line marquetry – a special detail that makes this piece a collector's item.
The body is veneered in plum wood, whose warm, vibrant grain contrasts beautifully with the inlays of bog oak and lemonwood. A finely crafted dot inlay runs around the entire perimeter, underscoring the high-quality craftsmanship.
Upon opening the spherical lid, the impressive interior is revealed:
• four secret compartments, cleverly integrated into the design
• small removable boxes and bobbin holders
• a padded shelf in deep red velvet
• and a monogrammed lid with hand-crafted initials (set in gold),
presumably original to the first owner – a truly charming detail.
Below the main body is a small, side-hinged drawer that blends discreetly into the overall design.
The piece is supported by three elegantly curved legs connected by a round shelf. The design is harmonious, finely proportioned, and typical of high-quality Biedermeier pieces from around 1900.
