In Project 22, the sculpted head is anchored to the wall through a vertical and horizontal chestnut wood structure, transforming the piece into an architectural wall object rather than a freestanding or suspended form. The work operates as a hybrid between portrait, relief and support system, emphasizing the idea of the human head as a constructed dwelling integrated directly into architectural space. Cast in high-hardness cement from a silicone mold, the sculpture retains the natural features of cement work: pores, chromatic variations, light abrasions and subtle irregularities that speak to the material’s construction origins. Each section is hand-tinted with water-based pigments and finished with a semi-matte varnish, highlighting shifts between volumes and transitions across the surface. The chestnut wood, treated with lasur, forms a stabilizing exoskeleton that not only supports the piece but frames the head as if embedded within a structural grid. Fine aggregates ensure crisp modeling, while acrylic fibers and a water-reducing agent reinforce overall durability and resistance to micro-cracking. Designed to be mounted using two discreet wall anchors, Project 22 lends itself to a wide range of interior contexts—especially those interested in integrating sculptural objects directly into the architectural envelope.
