The figure is shown in three-quarter view, in a calm and dignified pose, typical of official portraits of the Age of Enlightenment. The neutral, deliberately understated background highlights the face and hands, modeled with finesse. The Louis XVI period frame is made of carved oak, decorated with twisted laurel leaves and a ribboned bow at the top, a motif frequently found in Louis XVI ornamentation. Oil on canvas in good condition, a small chip in the upper part of the knot of the wooden frame. See less
